Trump warned last month that a continued war would trigger an "economic catastrophe"; he still faces political pressure to end the conflict.
The team led by Vice President Vance was tasked with persuading Iran to make technical concessions on limiting its nuclear ambitions within a 60-day timeframe. However, these negotiations have progressed slowly, focusing primarily on implementing the memorandum of understanding Trump signed at Versailles on June 17. The mediators, led by Pakistan and Qatar, are almost certainly racing against time to get the agreement back on track.
But Israel will likely interpret Trump's remarks very differently. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has been highly skeptical of Trump's diplomatic efforts with Iran; he may see Trump's comments as an opportunity to continue action against Hezbollah in Lebanon or launch direct military action within Iran.
