Hyundai Motor Group announced on Thursday that it has completed South Korea's first resource-recycling facility for producing clean hydrogen from biogas extracted from sewage sludge. Named "HTWO Energy," the facility is located in Cheongju, about 137 kilometers south of Seoul, within a public sewage treatment plant, covering an area of 7,500 square meters. The facility has a daily hydrogen production capacity of approximately 500 kilograms, enough to refuel about 100 Hyundai Nexo hydrogen fuel cell passenger vehicles or 30 hydrogen fuel cell buses. The facility is equipped with a purification system to purify biogas into high-quality biomethane, a hydrogen extraction system to produce hydrogen through the reaction of biomethane with steam, and a liquid carbon dioxide production system. Hyundai Motor Group stated that it plans to increase the facility's average daily hydrogen production capacity to 2 tons by 2030.
