Hyundai Motor Group said on Thursday it has completed HTWO Energy, South Korea's first facility producing clean hydrogen from biogas extracted from sewage sludge. Located inside a municipal wastewater treatment plant in Cheongju, about 137 km south of Seoul, the 7,500 sqm site has an initial daily hydrogen output of about 500 kg — enough to refuel roughly 100 Hyundai Nexo fuel‑cell cars or 30 fuel‑cell buses. The plant includes biogas upgrading to biomethane, steam‑reforming of biomethane to hydrogen and a liquid CO2 production unit. Hyundai plans to raise the facility's average daily hydrogen capacity to 2 tons by 2030.
