Google said search activity hit an all-time high after Argentina's late World
Cup winner, with a monitored peak in queries per second. The company declined to
give figures; Nick Fox, head of Google's Knowledge and Information, said the
post-goal spike exceeded previous records. The milestone comes as Google seeks
to demonstrate traditional search's relevance in the AI era; it still controls
about 90% of the search market, its stock has more than doubled over the past
year, and Q1 revenue growth was the strongest since 2022.
