ECB President Christine Lagarde said she does not currently intend to run in
next year’s French presidential election but plans to voice her views on
Europe’s future during the campaign. She said Europe must be protected and the
EU remains an important framework for member states, including France. Lagarde
acknowledged prior speculation she might leave the ECB early to enter French
politics, but said she would not step down while the central bank faces major
challenges.
