A London-based AI writing startup co-founded by former DeepMind creative heads has emerged from its stealth development phase and announced the completion of a $13 million seed funding round. The company, Marker, led the round, with participation from Index Ventures and Local Globe. Angel investors included Steve Newman, co-founder of Writely; Cal Henderson, co-founder of Slack; and Thomas Wolf of Hugging Face. Early beta users have reportedly used the platform to write blog posts, Substack briefings, business documents, memos, and even fiction. With growing concerns about “AI slop,” Marker CEO Steinback stated, “We are at a pivotal moment where people can choose the future of writing; I believe people will choose solutions that value writing techniques, not poorly produced content that is seriously eroding the essence of writing.”
