Researchers at Nagoya University report in ACS Nano a gallium-doped zinc oxide (GZO) nanosheet optical sensor that can let a single pixel detect red, green and blue light simultaneously, potentially replacing the decades-old Bayer color filter array. If commercialized, the technology could enable smaller sensors and thinner smartphone camera modules, higher‑resolution medical imaging devices, more compact automotive and aerospace sensors, and simpler manufacturing processes.
