The Australian government will replace paper passenger arrival cards with an electronic arrival card, committing A$56.1m over the next four years to modernize airport passenger processing. The e-arrival system will be phased in to all international airports and seaports within 12-18 months. Authorities say the change will speed passenger clearance by digitizing pre-arrival data, reducing manual processing and improving risk-assessment data quality to better manage biosecurity threats; the trade and tourism minister added it should boost the competitiveness of Australia’s tourism sector.
