The Bank of Canada will not provide a pre-release media preview of Wednesday’s
rate decision due to a union-planned protest in support of striking security
staff. The decision will be posted on the BOC website at 21:45 Beijing time;
reporting may be slightly delayed. About 50 unionized employees at the BOC’s
Ottawa and Montreal offices have been on strike since June 23. The bank had
moved the certified reporters’ waiting room to an alternate Ottawa site earlier
this week; planned protests at that site prompted cancellation of the preview
arrange.
