Volkswagen is adding a compact electric SUV, the ID. Cross, to its budget EV
lineup as high fuel prices and purchase subsidies push European buyers away from
petrol variants like the T‑Cross. The ID. Cross starts at about €28,000
(≈$32,000) and is open for pre‑order; sales of a smaller‑battery version will
start later. Volkswagen said the ID. Cross and lower‑priced electric variants of
the Polo, Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq will be built in Spain, where production
costs are significantly lower than in Germany, positioning the range to compete
with models such as BYD’s Dolphin.
