U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessant chaired an internal meeting of the Financial Stability Oversight Council on May 15. During the meeting, the Council heard a briefing from Treasury staff on a recent interagency tabletop exercise on geopolitical risks, hosted by the Treasury Department, designed to implement the Council's work on promoting economic security. The Council also heard briefings on the work of the Artificial Intelligence Working Group and four public-private sector roundtables co-hosted by the Council and the Treasury Department under the "AI Innovation Series." These discussions aimed to support the continued strength and resilience of the U.S. financial system in an era of accelerating technological change. The Council then heard a briefing on the quarterly Financial Stability Monitoring Report, which discussed supply chain risks, the impact of artificial intelligence on the labor and capital markets, and cybersecurity issues. Finally, the Council heard a briefing on planning for the upcoming 2026 fiscal year report. The Council also voted to approve the minutes of its previous meeting on May 6.
