China's National Healthcare Security Administration said in its 2025 Medical
Security Development Statistical Bulletin that as of end-2025, 1.331 bln people
were enrolled in basic medical insurance, maintaining a 95% coverage rate. The
national pooled basic medical insurance fund had a period-end balance of 525.77
bln yuan and operated broadly stably. Employee medical insurance enrollment
reached 388.56 mln, up 9.08 mln year-on-year (2.4%); during the 14th Five-Year
Plan period employee enrollment averaged an 8.8 mln annual increase.
Flexible-employment and other participants in employee medical insurance totaled
69.82 mln, more than 20 mln higher than at the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan.
