At a press briefing, Li Jiandong, researcher at the Viral Diseases Institute of
China CDC, said dengue and chikungunya have been spreading across tropical and
subtropical countries and climate change has expanded the range suitable for
Aedes mosquitoes. With cross‑border travel increasing, importation risk and
pressure to prevent cases remain elevated. Summer heat and rainfall are boosting
mosquito breeding and keeping vector densities at seasonally high levels, and
increased cross‑border and interprovincial travel during summer holidays raises
the risk that imported cases will trigger local outbreaks.
