U.S. Trade Representative Greer praised Switzerland’s stance in negotiations
with Washington, saying talks are ongoing and the direction is positive though
no guarantees can be made. After President Trump’s surprise 39% tariff
announcement last August, Swiss and U.S. officials reached a preliminary
framework three months later to cap tariffs at 15% (in line with EU levels) in
exchange for U.S. tariff reductions; Switzerland offered duty‑free import quotas
for U.S. meat, eased access for some other agricultural products, and Swiss
firms committed about $200bn of U.S. investment — Greer also highlighted Swiss
investment projects in Utah.
