ONS economic statistics head Liz McKeown said the three months to May saw continued GDP growth but a slight slowdown, with the last two months relatively weak. The services sector was the main driver, led by computer programming and advertising; the volatile pharmaceuticals sector also expanded. Weak electricity generation subtracted from growth and construction design and engineering contracted. While all three broad sectors expanded over the three months to May, May’s marginal GDP increase was driven solely by services as production and construction fell.
