CATL signed a memorandum of understanding with Dutch energy integrator Alfen
N.V. to deploy 5 GWh of Tianheng sodium‑ion battery energy storage systems in
the Netherlands and other Western European countries from 2027. The agreement
marks the product's first European deployments; CATL will use the projects to
gain local grid application experience and adapt its systems to European grid
standards to accelerate scale-up of sodium‑ion storage and support Europe’s
decarbonization and energy diversification.
