UK Financial Times reports Chinese AI startup Moonshot AI will release Kimi K3 in the coming days; sources say the model will have about 2–3 trillion parameters, making it China’s largest AI model to date. Anthropic has not disclosed parameter counts for its models; industry estimates place Opus 4.8 at roughly 1.5–2 trillion parameters. Sources say K3 is expected to outperform Opus 4.8 on mainstream benchmarks and will be offered as an open-weight model available for free download, posing a competitive challenge to closed-source, high-cost U.S. labs including Anthropic and OpenAI.
