Toyota Tsusho has begun offering direct shipping from Japan to Canada and Mexico
for Japanese auto-parts suppliers to help small and mid-sized firms avoid US
transshipment that can trigger double tariffs and to ship directly into North
American auto manufacturing hubs. The company says routes from Nagoya cut
transport costs by about 24% to Canada and 61% to Mexico. Many Japanese SMEs
lack bases in Canada or Mexico and typically export via the US for onward
shipment. Toyota produces roughly 2 mln vehicles in North America each year,
about 40% of which are made in Canada and Mexico.
