CNN reports that since the U.S. resumed daily airstrikes on Iran and reimposed a
maritime blockade of Iranian ports a week ago after a fragile ceasefire
collapsed, the Trump administration has not defined how long operations will
continue or what the ultimate objectives are. Officials say Trump has received
multiple options to expand the campaign; the U.S. military is seeking to degrade
Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has signaled intent to further
escalate airstrikes, including threats to hit civilian infrastructure and
potentially energy facilities, and has downplayed the importance of operation
duration. Vice President Vance, the administration’s chief Iran negotiator, said
military force alone would not be sufficient to eliminate Iranian control of the
Strait of Hormuz.
