The U.S. State Department issued a global security alert saying Middle East
tensions could unexpectedly escalate. It urged U.S. citizens worldwide,
especially those in the region, to increase vigilance. The alert said U.S.
diplomatic facilities, including posts outside the Middle East, have been
targeted. Iran-backed groups may target U.S. overseas interests or locations
associated with the U.S. and U.S. citizens globally.
