The 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and High-Level Meeting on
Global AI Governance convened in Shanghai on July 18, with dozens of governments
agency representatives discussing global governance challenges, widening access
and sharing of AI technologies, and mitigating AI security risks. China urged
support for the UN Global AI Governance Dialogue and the International AI
Science Panel to play an active role, provide more international public goods,
help strengthen capacity building in the Global South and advance a broadly
consensual global AI governance framework; the proposals drew positive
responses.
