Ontario Premier Doug Ford called President Trump's criticism of Canada's
firefighting and smoke mitigation efforts "absolutely unacceptable" after Trump
blamed the cross-border smoke on alleged Canadian forest mismanagement and said
on Friday he would add the "incalculable cost" of dealing with the pollution to
existing tariffs on Canadian goods. Ford suggested on Saturday the dispute could
be resolved if the U.S. removed tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber, saying
tariff-free softwood exports would address many of the problems now faced.
