A recording of the public ship radio channel near the Strait of Hormuz, provided
by a crew member on the evening of the 20th, indicates a Kuwait-flagged
oil/chemical tanker was attacked near the strait’s eastern exit. The fuel tanks
caught fire and heavy smoke was emanating from the hull and tank vents. Crew
reported two personnel with minor injuries, said they could not cool the fuel
tanks, had boarded lifeboats and were preparing to abandon ship while awaiting
nearby rescue forces.
