Veteran war reporter Elijah Magnier said the US can mount high‑intensity strikes on Iranian facilities but, at best, would only weaken Iran. He noted the US has large offensive munitions stocks but limited interceptor missile inventories, constraining its ability to defend US assets, allies and Israel from retaliatory strikes. Sustaining a large campaign would force hard choices about which bases, cities and incoming threats to protect. Magnier said Iran is likely to broaden the geographic scope of any conflict to increase the number of targets Washington must defend, raise the political — and especially economic — cost of further strikes. By using concentrated ballistic and cruise‑missile saturation attacks to wear down air defenses and force interceptors onto decoy targets, Iran could target US regional bases, logistics hubs, ports, radar facilities and fuel storage. Strikes on Gulf allies could increase domestic pressure on those governments to push the US to de‑escalate.
