[German Investor Confidence Rises to Five-Month High on Reforms] German investor confidence rose to its highest level in five months, indicating higher market expectations that Chancellor Merz's economic reforms will boost economic growth. Data released by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim, Germany, showed that the investor expectations index rose to 26.3 in July from 10.5 in June, far exceeding the median analyst forecast of 15.3. Indicators reflecting the current economic situation also improved. Earlier this month, the German government introduced a series of measures to promote economic growth, after which market optimism clearly increased. Despite renewed tensions in the Middle East, raising concerns about potential further disruptions to energy supplies and impacting German industry, investor confidence continued to improve. ZEW Chairman Achim Wambach stated, "The reforms seem to be working. Export-oriented sectors continue to grow, and domestic demand remains robust." However, he also noted, "Uncertainty surrounding the development of the conflict with Iran and oil prices remains a key factor affecting the prospects for Germany's economic recovery."
