Japan’s Ministry of Finance said Wednesday yen‑denominated crude import prices
in June rose 84.7% YoY to JPY117,684 per kiloliter, the highest level since
comparable records began in 1979 and the third consecutive monthly record, above
May’s JPY114,076/kl. The June price equals about $722 per kiloliter or $117.16
per barrel (the ninth‑highest on record). MOF cited supply disruption from a
Strait of Hormuz closure and higher energy prices; yen weakness and rising
insurance and freight costs also pushed prices higher.
