Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group analyst Derek Halpenny said in a note the dollar is likely to remain largely unaffected in the near term by the latest US trade uncertainty. He expects President Trump's new tariff plan to largely replicate Section 122 tariffs due to expire on Friday, so FX impact should be limited. Halpenny added USD is being supported by markets pricing further Fed hikes and heightened Middle East risk, but warned that if trade uncertainty intensifies and investors grow more concerned about unpredictable policy and damage to the US economy, dollar selling could resume.
