A senior U.S. official said on Wednesday that a long-awaited U.S.-India trade agreement could be signed in three to four months, indicating negotiations are essentially complete. Remaining work is Washington’s procedural handling of Section 301 trade investigations, which allow tariffs or other retaliatory measures for unfair trade. A 60-country Section 301 probe is expected to conclude this week or next. The official said once that probe and other ongoing investigations are finished, progress on deals — in India and elsewhere — should follow.
