Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdel Ati said Cairo believes de‑escalation and a restart of talks remain possible after nearly two weeks of reciprocal strikes between the US and Iran. Cairo is coordinating with lead mediators and is in daily contact with both parties, Gulf states, Pakistan and Turkey to push for a diplomatic resolution and a return to the terms of the mid-June memorandum of understanding. Abdel Ati said a concrete plan is under discussion and he will meet an Omani diplomat on Thursday evening; he said Oman is playing a key coordinating role.
