The prime minister's office said on the 23rd it has opened a 'Northern Downing
Street No.10' in Manchester. The facility, in the city-centre Heron Building,
will be a regular workplace for Prime Minister Burnham and other cabinets
ministers and will coordinate local economic development and devolution policy.
The move is described as an effort to shift economic decision-making away from
London. Burnham will chair the restarted National Economic Council's first
meeting at the site on the 24th; senior cabinet members and English regional
mayors are scheduled to attend. The office said Burnham is expected to work from
Manchester on a weekly basis going forward.
