Early on July 24 a tropical depression east of the Philippines strengthened into
this year’s 12th typhoon, Hongxia. The system is expected to move west‑northwest
at about 25–30 km/h and to intensify, increasing its impact on Guangdong
maritime areas. Citing its cyclone emergency plan, the Guangdong Maritime
Administration activated a Level‑1 response at 14:00 on July 24 and directed
relevant units to implement defensive measures and ensure water-transport
safety.
