On July 24 Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said Moscow will complete in any case
the objectives of its special military operation in Ukraine. He said the United
States has revised its position on the "consensus" reached at the August 2025
Russia‑US Alaska summit, citing remarks by US Secretary of State Rubio as
evidence of the shift. Lavrov said Washington had previously assured Moscow
Ukrainian President Zelenskiy would take necessary steps toward a peaceful
settlement, but that promise was not fulfilled. He added Russia prefers a
diplomatic resolution but will meet the conditions set out by President Putin in
June 2024.
