Typhoon Hongxia, this year’s 12th typhoon, is forecast to bring heavy rain to
eastern Guangdong and southern Fujian from July 25–27, with cumulative totals of
150–300mm and local peaks of 400–500mm. After a joint assessment with the
Ministry of Natural Resources, authorities judged geological-disaster risk high
in those areas; under the National Emergency Plan for Geological Disasters the
Ministry of Emergency Management activated a national level-4 emergency response
for Guangdong and Fujian on July 24.
