Iran’s parliamentary National Security Committee, together with judicial, economic and civil affairs subcommittees, is reviewing a draft law to govern the Strait of Hormuz, state broadcaster IRIB reported. The draft has not been published. Officials have said it would assert Iranian sovereignty over the waterway and propose charging fees for vessels transiting the strait. Deputy Speaker Ali Nikzad said in May the draft would bar Israeli vessels from passage and deny transit to ships from “hostile countries” unless they compensate for war-related losses.
