Tata Power expects to build its first nuclear power plant by 2032 after India
ended a decades‑long state monopoly on nuclear energy to boost energy security
and decarbonisation. CEO Praveer Sinha said the company has identified sites in
at least three states and could start construction as early as early 2028,
subject to the government finalizing rules for private entrants, targeting
commissioning in 2032–33 as the country’s first private‑sector nuclear plant.
The initiative forms part of India’s push to expand nuclear capacity amid rising
power demand from AI and data centers and a broader global revival of nuclear
investment.
