China’s Foreign Ministry said on July 28 it is strongly dissatisfied that four
months after an active-duty Japan Self-Defense Forces officer identified as
Murata illegally entered the Chinese embassy in Japan with a knife, Japan has
delayed investigation—citing psychiatric evaluations and other excuses—and has
not promptly punished the perpetrator. The ministry urged Japan to conduct a
full probe, implement corrective measures, dig into root causes and provide a
responsible explanation to China and the international community, saying threats
to the safety of Chinese missions in Japan have continued intermittently.
