Timo Wori, director for international trade and trade policy at the Federation of Finnish Industries, said the U.S. has not fully met its obligations under the International Labor Organization framework yet is imposing tariffs under the banner of "forced labor," calling the move absurd. He said the Trump administration sought legal cover for unilateral tariffs from a 1970s law to justify the "forced labor" claim. Wori warned U.S. tariff policy is hitting Finnish steel and pharmaceutical firms, damaging global trade ties and raising uncertainty for the global economy and business operations, and that the ultimate cost falls on U.S. consumers. He also expressed concern that tariffs are being used outside traditional trade policy—citing Greenland, Iran and NATO cooperation disputes—saying the "weaponization" of tariffs increases economic and security uncertainty worldwide.
