The Geospatial Information Authority of Japan said on the evening of July 28
that analysis of electronic reference-station data around the Kumamoto
earthquake epicentre showed maximum crustal deformation of about 84 cm in
Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture, and about 40 cm in Kumamoto City. The
figures are preliminary and may be revised; the agency said "84 cm can be
considered a fairly large crustal deformation."
