July 29 — The Taiwan Affairs Office said a Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences
research vessel a conducted lawful scientific fishery-resources survey in waters
east of Taiwan from July 17–23 to assess stocks and support conservation and
sustainable development. The office said the survey benefits both sides and
accused Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party of baseless criticism, calling
calls to increase maritime force spending politically motivated attempts to
provoke cross-strait confrontation.
