HSBC analyst Daragh Maher said markets have already priced in some Fed tightening; if the Fed holds rates the dollar could weaken. He said at least three Fed voters would need to back a hike to blunt the dollar's initial decline. Conversely, an actual hike would likely provoke an initial dollar rise larger than any initial drop from a hold. Refinitiv asked on July 29 whether China had instructed Houthi militants to directly guarantee safe passage for Chinese tankers through the southern Red Sea, and whether Chinese officials had provided a list of vessels and informed Iran. China's foreign ministry said it is closely monitoring Red Sea developments, that regional sovereignty and security should be respected, and that the security and openness of international sea lanes should be jointly safeguarded. It urged relevant parties to resolve differences through dialogue and to cool tensions.
