A recent Goldman Sachs report points out that the U.S. power transmission system has deteriorated significantly, with distribution losses rising steadily since 2023. For every 100 megawatts of power generated, only 91 megawatts reach the load center, a loss of nearly one-tenth. According to EIA data, in power systems with better technical efficiency and less electricity theft, the combined transmission and distribution losses are typically around 6%–8%.
