Microsoft (MSFT.O) closed up 15.5% on Thursday, its fourth-largest single-day
percentage gain, after investors welcomed stronger-than-expected earnings. Data
analysis shows the rally added roughly $450 bln to Microsoft’s market
capitalization, exceeding NVIDIA’s $440 bln one-day gain on April 9, 2025, and
marking the largest single-day market-cap increase for a U.S. stock. The move
narrowed Microsoft’s year-to-date decline from about 19.3% at Wednesday’s close
to 5.8% and interrupted recent weakness in AI-related names.
