July 31 — Japan formally established a National Intelligence Agency and convened
its first national intelligence meeting. China's foreign ministry called the
step a further negative turn in Tokyo's internal and external security policy,
accusing Japan of using so‑called "external threats to national security" to
accelerate remilitarization, warn it threatens regional peace and stability
and has drawn broad international concern, and urging Japanese policymakers to
learn from history and act cautiously.
