On March 31 local time, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement saying that its navy had struck and seized two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz that day for violating a ban. The statement indicated that the two tankers, escorted by US forces, attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz despite warnings. In addition, four other oil tankers quickly changed course and returned after being warned. Iran reiterated its warning that any attempt to disrupt navigation in the area would be met with a response.
