The Washington Post reports US European Command commander Alexus Grynkewich
privately warned the Pentagon this week that he lacks sufficient naval force to
continue protecting Israel from ballistic-missile attacks, saying that without
another destroyer he would be forced to choose between defending the US homeland
and defending Israel. Grynkewich framed the shortfall as evidence of resource
pressure from the ongoing Iran-related conflict. A US defense official said the
warning is consistent with prior notices senior commanders send when risks
require US-level consideration and that such trade-offs occur as combatant
commanders compete for limited assets and weapons.
