The Ministry of Water Resources activated a Level IV flood-defense emergency response for Chongqing at 13:00 on Aug 2. Forecasts show moderate to heavy rain from Aug 2–4, with central and southeastern Chongqing liable to heavy to torrential rainfall. The upper Yangtze mainstem and tributaries including the Wujiang and Jialing are expected to register significant water rises; smaller rivers along Yangtze tributaries — Dayuxi, Bixi River, and Wujiang tributaries Jiuqu River and Ganlong River — may exceed flood-warning levels. The ministry ordered local water authorities to tighten monitoring and forecasting, maintain emergency duty and joint assessment, enhance warnings, scientifically operate hydraulic projects, and reinforce river flood control, reservoir safety, and defenses against small-river and mountain-flood hazards to protect lives and property.
