The U.S. State Department has notified Congress it intends to close five
overseas diplomatic posts: St. George's, Grenada; Winnipeg, Canada; Nagoya,
Japan; Medan, Indonesia; and Douala, Cameroon. The notification, submitted to
select congressional committees late last week, represents a rare multi-post
reduction in the U.S. diplomatic footprint without a specific geopolitical
trigger.
