Two senior House Democrats, Reps. Robert Garcia (CA) and Suhas Subramanyam (VA), wrote to Defense Secretary Hegseth on Tuesday criticizing the Pentagon’s methodology for reporting US casualties in the Iran war and saying they are investigating the Defense Department’s public casualty reporting. The lawmakers cited slow publication of injured personnel figures, reliance on the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) as the sole source for updates, and incidents where death and injury entries were temporarily removed from DCAS. As of Tuesday afternoon DCAS records show 18 US service members killed and 687 wounded since the conflict began on Feb. 28.
