The U.S. will ban exports of tungsten waste and recycled battery materials later
this month, the Federal Register says. Less than a week earlier President Trump
authorized authorities to restrict certain potential critical materials to
domestic markets. Under the rule, suppliers of tungsten waste and of “black
mass” (the metal mix from shredded lithium‑ion batteries) must sell those
materials within the United States; firms may apply for exemptions.
