Most of Croatia is experiencing a new heatwave, with daytime highs above 39°C in
some areas. The Croatian Hydrometeorological Service issued red heat nationwide
warnings for the 5th and 6th. Heat and drought have driven river levels lower;
the Drava near Osijek has fallen to its lowest level in nearly 200 years.
Operators of the Krško nuclear power plant, jointly run by Croatia and Slovenia
and cooled by the Sava River, say rising river temperatures are being closely
monitored and they will decide whether to reduce generation if conditions
warrant.
